Worship Music Should Emphasize Participation

Worship music can be one of the most divisive issues in a church. Many believe that the purpose for congregation worship music is to fulfill three roles: praise, prayer and proclamation. It is the pastor and worship leader's responsibility to ensure worship music provides a balance of these three roles.

Praise refers to the exalting of God/Yahwey for his acts and attributes. Prayer is man's communication with to His Creator-God. And, proclamation is in the sense of any of man's activities that proclaim the Word of God including quotations, explanation, teaching and preaching and the like or similar.

It’s very common for even well trained, and well intentioned musicians to work towards an end result where the emphasis of worship becomes performance oriented rather than participation and communication with the Lord/Yahwey.

Worship music is a complex issue that all leaders should take seriously.
